Everyone knows good-byes are never easy. You would think they might get easier over time, but they don’t.

The hardest thing for me is to go for long periods of time without seeing the family and friends I hold dear. I don’t know how many times I’ve ridden on an airplane or in a car with tears streaming down my face and an ache in my heart. It’s hard–especially when I see the same sadness in the girls after they have said their good-byes. It is sweet, though, when we can console one another, knowing exactly how we each feel. It draws us closer. And we are able to comfort one another with the fact that sad good-byes make happy hellos.

As painful as leaving might be, the reunion is so sweet. It brings so much delight and replaces the sorrow with joy. We look forward to those days, whenever they may be. When we are reunited with our dear family and friends, whether they come to us or we return to them. Sad good-byes really do make happy hellos.
